PGO S.A. ready to manufacture 120 mm ammunition bodies.

A key milestone in building Poland’s ammunition sovereignty

PGO S.A., one of the leaders of Poland’s metalworking industry and advanced forging technologies, announces the full launch of 120 mm ammunition body production. This is another strategic step in the national programme to rebuild and develop ammunition capabilities, and at the same time an important element of the roadmap leading to the start of production in Poland of the first domestically made 155 mm artillery projectile, which the Company is developing together with the Military Institute of Armament Technology.

New equipment, greater capabilities, full compliance with NATO requirements

At Kuźnia Glinik in Gorlice, part of the PGO Group, modern production equipment was commissioned in the first quarter of 2026 to manufacture, among others, components for medium- and large-calibre ammunition. The equipment supports production of key elements for 155 mm projectiles, as well as the new production of 120 mm bodies. The applied steel-forging technology meets NATO standards and is currently the most proven, preferred, and widely used method for manufacturing critical ammunition components.

Thanks to the investments, the plant has increased production scalability, with a nominal annual capacity, expandable further, reaching 40,000 forged components.

“Launching 120 mm body production is not only another business milestone for PGO S.A., but also a tangible contribution to building Poland’s ammunition sovereignty. With the new lines and competencies at Kuźnia Glinik, we can now respond to the needs of the Armed Forces faster, more reliably, and using fully domestic resources. This is the moment when Polish industry stops chasing the world and starts setting its own direction. We are proud that PGO is actively taking part in this process,” says Andrzej Bulanowski, Vice President of PGO S.A.

Modern infrastructure and rapid scalability

Kuźnia Glinik, part of PGO S.A., leverages its own production and workforce potential, a complete quality control base, and advanced technologies ensuring full product traceability, high parameter precision, and short, predictable lead times. This makes it possible to deliver components for the most demanding defence programmes and international customers. The first technological forging trials for 155 mm bodies are planned for the second quarter of 2026, while production of 120 mm bodies can begin immediately, as the plant is fully ready from a technological standpoint.

120 mm: a response to key modernisation needs of the Polish Armed Forces

The dynamic development of land forces fire-support systems, including 120 mm self-propelled mortars, as well as increased demand for this type of ammunition within NATO supply chains, creates the need for stable deliveries and expanded domestic production capacities.

In response, PGO S.A. offers components and solutions for 120 mm ammunition, developed in line with the design and operational requirements applicable in the armed forces of Allied countries, ensuring above all ballistic compatibility, mechanical durability, and safe use.

Optimised manufacturing technology in PGO S.A. plants guarantees, among other things, dimensional and mass repeatability of projectile bodies, as well as the ability to scale production to rapidly increase supply while maintaining quality parameters.

Towards full ammunition sovereignty

In recent years, demand for artillery ammunition has increased dramatically, both due to the conflict in Ukraine and the intensive modernisation of the Polish Armed Forces. The lack of adequate production capacity has been one of the biggest challenges for the entire defence sector. Through consistent investment and technological development, PGO S.A. is becoming a key link in rebuilding domestic potential.

Metalworking expertise, decades of experience, and new production equipment make it possible not only to increase Poland’s ammunition manufacturing capabilities, but also to have a real impact on the security of Poland and its allies.
